I see this as a theme for a literacy program. When the issue of Gun Violence comes up, The United states is compared to Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, all of which have strict gun control laws. the suggestion is that gun control is all that is necessary to stop gun violence. Yet the United States leads all these country by at least a two to one ratio in deaths by Violence, Drugs, Alcohol, Suicide. We also lead in the number of people incarcerated. The one thing that seems to connect all of these things, is Illiteracy. Which the United States also leads in. I am not naive enough to believe that Violence, Crime, Drug addiction, Alcoholism, and Suicide will disappear once we see 100 percent literacy in the United States but it is a step in the right direction.
